The Ging Hawk Club started as off as a Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) affiliated organization that was founded in the 1929 by Social worker Theodora Chan. The club, whose name literally means “striving for knowledge,” was created for Chinese women in college and was meant as a place where they could meet like-minded women. The club had 5-6 members when it started and peaked at 25-30 members during its heyday. The club organized social and cultural activities also raised money to help China and the US fight the Japanese during WWII. The club remained active until the 1960s.


女子竟学会起源于一个基督教女青年会(YWCA)的附属组织,由社工Theodora Chan于1929年创立。该俱乐部,字面上的意思是“求知”,是为大学里的中国女性而创建的,旨在让她们在那里结识志同道合的女性。该俱乐部成立之初只有5-6名成员,鼎盛时期达到了25-30名成员。该学会组织社会和文化活动,还筹集资金帮助中国和美国在二战期间抗击日本。女子竟学会一直活跃到20世纪60年代。
