The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) is one of the oldest organizations in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Founded in 1883 and modeled off clan affiliations in China, the CCBA essentially played a governing role in the Chinatown community. With the influx of different groups of Chinese immigrants over the 20th and 21st centuries, the hegemony of the CCBA has lessened as other benevolent associations reflecting a variety of political affiliations have cropped up. Now, the CCBA continues to serve the community of Chinese New Yorkers.

As declared in the CCBA’s doctrine, the Association aims to facilitate the integration of Chinese and Chinese Americans into mainstream American society by advocating for Chinese-American interests and promoting Chinese culture. In addition, the CCBA provides social services like youth programs, English classes, and other educational and leisure activities to the Chinese community.
